Happy 4th of July! I'm smashing yesterday and today's blog post into one since yesterday was mostly spend in the car anyways.
The family arrived in Menomonie (doo doo do do do), Wisconsin around 3:30pm. The Boekers met us at their house and we received the grand house tour, and then they lead the way to Lake Tainter. It was maybe a twenty minute drive, which makes me really jealous. I'd live on a lake in a hot second. Bonus points if there's a mountain in the back ground. They have a beautiful lake house. It's log on the outside, but very modern on the inside. We had so much space! Sus, Mom and I all shared a room, and then Dad and Alex got a second.
Mr. Boeker took us our on the speed boat (speed boat!) and we visited the sandbar for a bit. Next we traveled via speed boat (speed boat!) to the Tiki Bar. I met the elusive younger brother to Brianna. Brianna is a sophmore bibliophile, so we got along pretty well, swapping book titles and authors like some people discuss sports. Dylan, who's going into 8th grade, was the social butterfly and hung out with all the boys living on the lake. I think I saw all of two other girls, myself and Brianna excluded.
Fireworks were due to start at a campsite along the lake, so all the boats from the Boeker's circle of friends tied up to each other to enjoy the late night, 3rd of July fireworks show. It started late and lasted every bit of 30 minutes. Susanna slept through it, a la the De Smet thunderstorm, but everyone else enjoyed the pyrotechnics. Some of the guys even began to sing. Don't worry, you really didn't miss much. Justin Beiber sounds better than these dudes.
The boat headed back to the dock and deposited all the exhausted occupants, who then went soundly to sleep. However that was after Susanna peed all over the bed downstairs. This is not the first time Susanna has peed a bed. My very own bed has it's own horror stories to share. The two beds will have to get together sometime. We'll call it Mattresses Anonymous.
I was last to awake the next morning, which prompted mom to quote Byron and Bill Cosby simultaneously by proclaiming, "She walks!" It sort of makes me sound like Frankenstein.
After a leisurely breakfast Brianna invited the kids to ride the jet ski with her. Alex and Sus got first dibs, but eventually it was my turn. I need more jet skis in my life. If you closed your eyes it feels like you're flying. I'm going to have to live on a lake someday and jet ski and parasail and paddle board.
I thought that was as good as it got, unitl they hooked up the tube to the back. I have never had so much fun, ever. The tube bounced along and Alex and I held on for dear life. Dylan stood up for a few seconds, and Brianna rode for a while on her back. I need more lakes in my life.
We visited with some of the Boeker's friends and then we got to go tubing some more. I am going to be really sore in the morning. We spent the night and then got up early this morning to pack up, go to Mass, and then headed homeward. I think everyone is starting to fall apart. Exhaustion is setting in.
